The North Wall Arts Centre on South Parade in Summertown is a quirky little theatre with lots on for kids (and adults too).
We’ve just been to see ‘WOW It’s Night-time’ – a stage adaptation of Tim Hopgood’s book about a curious little owl who comes across lots of animals in its night-time adventuring. It was a one woman show which was very beautifully done, with lots of clever puppetry for the animals. Unfortunately it was on for one day only, but the North Wall have lots of family shows coming up (see below).
Excitingly the theatre have just started doing free play sessions before some of their family shows. This was absolutely brilliant and made it feel like much more of a day out! So much thought had gone into the activity – which was to make an owl mobile to fit in with the owl theme of the show.
The mobile was way more ambitious than anything we’d normally attempt at home and we were both pretty chuffed with the result – this will definitely be going on our wall! There was also colouring in, feathers, books and blocks for kids to play with. There were theatre staff there helping and generally being really friendly.
The theatre itself is very child-friendly. There’s a huge baby change on the ground floor, space for buggies and booster seats for the shows. They also do ‘passports’ like the museums, where kids collect a sticker for each show they go to and get a sixth show for free!
Kids and stickers eh… there was a feeding frenzy for the stickers after the show, and they also got given a balloon AND a badge! This was such a strong end to a very enjoyable afternoon.
Upcoming shows are:
Wednesday 20th Feb 2019 – Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids
Saturday 9th March 2019 – The Chit Chat Chalk Show
Wednesday 17th April 2019 – Snow White Rose Red Brown Bear
Saturday 25th May 2019 – Tarzanna
Show are £8 for adults and £6 for children. We have all the shows listed on the Mumbler events calendar – or visit the North Wall website here.
**I was given free tickets to see this show but the above is all my honest opinion – I would never EVER recommend anything I didn’t think was great!**
