Festival of Archeaology – The Ashmolean

A big weekend exploring one of the most fascinating ages in Britain’s history – the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.

Join our big weekend of fun-filled activities, talks and crafts for all ages.

The weekend was supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

PROGRAMME

Taking place on both days. No booking required.
  • Regia Anglorum
Meet Anglo-Saxon craftsmen and women and find out about the materials and techniques they used to create a range of fascinating Anglo-Saxon objects.
  • Storytelling
Travel back to the lands of myth and mystery through a startling and spellbinding collection of tales of warriors, gods and grim monsters with storyteller Stewart Alexander. Suitable for all ages.
  • Stonemasonry
Behold an exciting procession of Guild officers, officials and apprentices through the museum, watch Anglo-Saxon carving demonstrations and more.
  • Anglo-Saxon Crafts
Have a go at making an Anglo-Saxon style finger ring, and a chance to see Anglo-Saxon and Viking tools, crafts and everyday utensils.
  • Jewels & Daggers
Make your own Anglo-Saxon Alfred Jewel and dagger.
